do you know that advocating for grocery stores in “food dessert” areas often destroys thriving local gardening economies (that women often control or have a bigger position in than they do at grocery stores) in those same locations?

can someone point me in the direction of writing on this? Because none of the food deserts I’ve ever been in had anything like what this seems to be implying. Not to mention the fact that grocery stores supply more than just things that can be gardened, like milk, cheese, meat, etc.

that would be me, and welcome to Detroit.

ETA: just realized i misread what you said—thought you were asking WHO is writing this.

there is less “writing” that I know about this than there is active organizing—check out what is happening in Detroit around Whole Foods being put up. Check out what happened in L.A. with the garden destroyed there. Check out what happened in NY (i think it was the bronx) with the destruction of the garden there.

and of course, this goes back to the question of control of media production and distribution. why *wouldn’t* there be a heavy output of writing on this even tho communities organized so hard against some of this stuff that they wound up in prison?
